About Us

The Gamma Delta chapter of Sigma Delta Tau was founded at American University in 1987. We recently celebrated our 25th Anniversary as a sucessful chapter.

Sigma Delta Tau was founded by Dora Bloom, Amy Apfel, Marian Gerber, Grace Srenco, Inez Ross, Regene Freund and Lenore Rubinow in 1917 in Ithaca, New York, at Cornell University. The Founders sought to establish a sorority which would enrich the lifetime experience of women of similar ideals, build lasting friendships, and foster personal growth.

Today, Sigma Delta Tau is a national sorority and a member of the National Panhellenic Conference. Sig Delt continues to place a strong dedication towards encouraging each member to reach her fullest potential by providing intellectual, leadership, and social opportunities within a framework of mutual respect and high ethical standards.

Sigma Delta Tau's membership has grown to more than 50,000 women nationwide with over one hundred collegiate chapters across the United States and Canada.

Sigma Delta Tau Fun Facts:
